College History

This college had its beginning in 1945 at intermediate level with just 47 students. Before the present building  came into existence, the college was located in the Bagla School, Churu. It was shifted to the present location in 1949 when it was upgraded to graduation level in commerce stream.

Expansion, in terms of building and other infrastructural facilities as well as number of students, continued and the college was upgraded to graduation level in 1949 with commerce faculty.

The college has a huge double-storied building with large, well-ventilated rooms. Even though Seth K.L. Lohia had built a huge building for the college, more and more additions have been taking place gradually over a period of time.

1945: Established  as intermediate College

1949:  Upgraded as Degree College with Faculty of Commerce in

          subjects – Accounts & Finance, Business Management, Banking

          & Financial Management

 1954:  Faculty of Arts started at Undergraduate Level in the subjects:

              English, Hindi, History & political Science at U.G. level

1955: Faculty of Science started at Undergraduate Level in the

           subjects – Zoology, Botany, Chemistry, Physics & Maths

1955:   Sanskrit was introduced at U.G. level

1957: Economics was added to the Faculty of Arts as a core subject at U.G. level

1966: Geography was introduced as core subject a U.G. level

1970: Recognized by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi

           Under Rule 2(f) w.e.f. June 1970, & Rule 12(B) w.e.f. Jun 1970

1972: Upgraded to Post Graduate level in Faculty of Commerce in

           Accounts & Finance, Business Management, Banking &

           Financial Management

1974: Post Graduation course started in Chemistry

1977: Post Graduation in History and Political Science

1978: Sociology was introduced as a core subject at U.G. level

1979: Faculty of Law was introduced in the evening shift

1980: Post Graduation in Botany

1982: Urdu was introduced as core subject at U. G. level

1982: Post Graduation in Zoology

1993: This collge became the FIRST & ONLY ONE Govt. college in Rajasthan to

            start the UGC sponsered Vocational Course in Communicative English

1999: P. G. in Geography was introduced

2004: Accredited as B+ by UGC

2004: College Development Committee registered, Regn. No. 130/Churu/2004-05

2005: Law faculty separated from this college as an independent college

          within a college ; but financial powers for this Law College are still with

          Lohia College, Churu

2006: Declared a Model College by the Govt of Rajasthan

2006: Language Lab was established for effective English language teaching

2007: Knowledge Centre established

2009: College website was launched

2009:  SFS seats (10 ) each in CHEMISTRY, BOTANY AND ZOOLOGY SANCTIONED for M Sc course

2010: P. G. in Urdu  was introduced

2012 : P.G.in English Lit. was introduced

2013: NAAC awarded " B" certificate to the College

          Online Admission for UG Classes

2015: Selected for grants from HRD under RUSA

2016:  PG in Maths, Physics and Sanskrit

          UG in Public Administration

          Online admissions for PG Classes 

2018:  PG in Hindi
